In a major boost to urban biodiversity awareness, over 200 species of birds were recorded during a recently conducted Bird Race in Vadodara. The event brought together birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, photographers, and conservationists who surveyed wetlands, lakes, green belts, and open landscapes across and around the city.
Participants documented a wide variety of resident, migratory, and rare bird species, highlighting Vadodara’s rich and diverse ecosystem. Wetland zones and water bodies proved especially significant, hosting several migratory birds that arrive during the winter season.
Experts noted that the high species count reflects healthy ecological conditions, improved awareness, and sustained conservation efforts in the region. The Bird Race also aimed to promote citizen participation in wildlife monitoring and to encourage the protection of natural habitats amid rapid urban development.
Organisers emphasized that such initiatives help build long-term data on bird populations and inspire communities to value and safeguard local biodiversity. The success of the event has strengthened Vadodara’s reputation as an important hub for birdlife in central Gujarat.
